Duramed Pharmaceuticals, an innovator in women’s healthcare pharmaceutical products, focuses its product development and marketing activities on products for women. Since its formation in 2001, the Company’s proprietary products subsidiary has steadily grown to a $400 million dollar a year business with over 400 employees, 25 marketed products, aggressive corporate development activities, and over a dozen R&D projects in various stages of development.
Duramed focuses on providing patients with an array of Female Healthcare products, with particular emphasis on developing and marketing products that serve the reproductive and menopausal needs of women. Additional products in the Company’s portfolio include hormone therapy and the more effective management of cholesterol levels in women.
Duramed’s products are marketed by two sales teams. Duramed’s Women’s Healthcare Sales Force is made up of 250 people, and markets the SEASONIQUE extended-cycle oral contraceptive, which represents the next generation of extended-cycle oral contraceptives in a category the Company created with the launch of the SEASONALE extended-cycle oral contraceptive in 2003. This team also markets the ENJUVIA hormone therapy and other female healthcare products. Duramed also has a 103-person Specialty Products Sales Force that promotes such products as the ParaGard® IUD non-hormonal contraceptive option, Mircette® oral contraceptive, and Niaspan® and Advicor® cholesterol treatments to obstetricians, gynecologists and other practitioners with a focus on women’s healthcare.
Duramed’s proprietary product development activities are focused in three primary areas: patent-protected proprietary products in late stages of development; existing chemical compounds where the development of new forms, different dosages or innovative drug delivery systems offer therapeutic or marketing advantages; and new chemical entities in selected therapeutic categories, including some that are marketed in other countries but not currently sold in the United States.
The Company’s proprietary product pipeline includes products in the therapeutic areas of female healthcare, including contraceptives, hormone therapy and trans-vaginal ring technology products; oncology; urology; and anti-infective/anti-viral products. Currently, Duramed has several proprietary product applications pending at the FDA and several proprietary products that are in various stages of clinical development. In addition to internal product development, Duramed continually evaluates opportunities including acquiring or licensing new products, new drug delivery technologies and platforms, as well as corporate mergers and acquisitions.
Duramed is committed to educating women about healthcare in its therapeutic categories of focus, and in providing education on treatment options and innovative product options that meet their healthcare needs.
